Expensive production for its era was noted primarily for camera work in which director Fejos devised a camera crane capable of traveling at every possible angle and at a speed of nearly 600 feet per minute. This allowed for some spectacular shots which gave the film a thrilling tenseness. Bootlegger Robert Ellis murders rival Paul Porcasi, owner of the Paradise Night Club. Kennedy, who witnesses the killing but is covering for the gangster, breaks her silence when Ellis tries to frame Tyron, her dancing partner. She is kidnaped by Ellis but saved by the murdered man's mistress who shoots the villain dead. Kennedy then marries her dancing partner. Magnificent sets--complete with an excellent carnival night scene--and solid performances make this a worthwhile effort. Songs include "Broadway," "The Chicken or the Egg," "Hot Footin' It," "Hittin' the Ceiling," "Sing a Little Love Song."
