Rodeo epic starring Coburn as a quick-tempered bronco-buster who seeks to regain the respect of his wife (Nettleton), his son (Ted Eccles), and his best friend (Pickens), while still retaining his freedom. The film is at its best when illustrating rodeo life. Director Ihnat, an actor who died soon after this films release, brings some interesting and realistic details to the setting. Songs are "Easy Made for Lovin," "My Special Day" (composed and sung by Bobby Russell), "Im a Rodeo Cowboy" (composed and sung by Slim Pickens). THE HONKERS was one of four rodeo pictures to be released between 1972 and 1973 (the others were JUNIOR BONNER, J.W. COOP, and WHEN LEGENDS DIE), and it was Anne Archers screen debut.
